You can do exactly what you want to do. Take your vehicle to the shop of YOUR choice. Beware of direct repair facilities, which contract with insurance companies to become one of their preferred repair facilities. As a consumer, you are NEVER obligated to take your vehicle to one of these shops and you ALWAYS have the right to consider the options and confirm the integrity of the parts being used to fix your vehicle. Don't let an insurance handler steer you wrong-make your own informed choice when it comes to who performs your vehicle repairs. One good thing about a "direct repair" facility is that you will get a guarantee on your repairs.
A wrecked and repaired vehicle will always have less value than an undamaged one. If you've been in an accident and ARE NOT the responsible party, you may file a claim with the other driver's insurance company to be compensated for your loss in resale value. You cannot file a diminished value claim with your own insurance carrier.
The length of time it takes to repair a vehicle depends on the extent of the damage. We will provide you with an estimated timeframe for repairs when we assess your vehicle.
Call the repair facility to find out what type of payments you will need to make. If the claim is filed under your policy, more than likely you will need to bring your deductible check and the original insurance check you may received from your carrier. If the claim is against another party's insurance policy you will need to bring the original insurance check you may have received. Each insurance policy and claim is different so please call the repair shop to find out exactly what you need to bring.
